How your power level effects training

Hey-lo again guys. Its KitaeK27 again, with another short and simple guide on power levels. This is sometimes referred to as Monster levels, Power Rating, Character Power, etc etc. The official terminology was never exactly decided (yet, since we have not seen the actual NA terminology in CB). By “Simple” guide, I mean without the use of snapshots, videos, charts, and extensive use of html/bbcode functions I would normally use.

What is Power Level?

Power Level is a difficult concept to understand. However, if you stick with me and pay attention, you’ll (hopefully) get a basic idea. First, lets look at the factors that raise your power level.

  • Character’s Level
  • Character’s Stats
  • Character’s Age
  • Character’s Skills and Ranks of these skills

Note: Some of these do not DIRECTLY raise your power level, but will raise indirectly as a side effect or a stat boost

Most people may be asking “So Power Level is good, right?” and almost every player will respond with a “No”. This is because Power Level changes the category of your opponent’s difficulty. Heres how it goes.

Opponent’s Difficulty Rating

There are 6 different types of enemies. When you hold down the ALT button, you will see one of the following “Difficulty” titles appear in front of the monster’s name. We will dub this list the “MDL” (monster difficulty ladder) for short.

  • Boss
  • Awful
  • Strong
  • Normal (Blank)
  • Weak
  • Weakest

When you fight a Weak or Weakest monster, they will not only give you 0 EXP (unless you are in a dungeon, in which case you recieve full exp), their drop rates will also decrease.

Exp Bonuses and penalties will depend on the monster’s difficulty ranks.

How the Power Levels effect Monster Difficulty

Your character’s Power Levels are the ONLY thing that effects monster difficulty. As your character’s Power Levels increase, monsters which were once seen to be difficult will lose their ranking in the MDL and drop down the list.

For example, sufficient gain of Power Level will turn a Dire Wolf from a Boss type, to a Awful type, then to a Strong type, etc, and eventually to the point where they turn Weakest

How does this effect my skill training?

Skills like Windmill, Combat Mastery, Magic Bolts, Ranged Mastery, and many many more have certain requirements that needs to be met before you can enchance it to the next rank. Though the first alphabet ranks are relatively easy to get by, the number ranks start to pose a challenge, as they demand things like…

Example: Requirements for Rank 5 Windmill
Finish a Strong Monster using Windmill (3000 times)
Finish a Awful Monster using Windmill (3000 times)
Finish a Boss Monster using Windmill (450 times)
Attack 4 or more Strong monsters simultaneously (15)
Finish 4 or more Strong monsters simultaneously (15)

While this list seems not too challenging at first glance, by the time the average player has reached rank 5 windmill, they will find it quite difficult to come across a Boss type monster they can finish off easily. For example, I personally must run a difficult setting of Ciar dungeon, and find a Dark Golem to finish as a boss type, becausea regular Golem is considered Awful for me. To finish 450 of these Dark Golems (let alone… just GETTING to this part) would take a ridiculously long time.

ITS BECAUSE MY POWER LEVEL IS OVER NINE THOUSAAAAANNNNNNDDDD!!

I AM SOOOO SORRY BUT I JUST HAD TO POST IT

Do you understand why people want you to rank windmill before any other melee skill? Its the most demanding melee combat skill for training.

This is one of the few reasons why people suggest you make an attempt to keep your Power Levels as low as possible. Your Power levels can hinder your training exp wise, and delay skill training from what should’ve been hours to weeks.

How to keep/lower your Power Levels

To prevent monsters from climbing down the MDL, there are many things you can do. Prepare to laugh, because this contradicts everything you have ever learned about MMORPG’s. Note: This is only a suggestion that some people will make/take. You do not have to do this if you don’t want to.

  • Do not level
  • Do not obtain skills unless you need it
  • Try to train skills as young as possible
  • Suicide a bunch *disclaimer*

*Remember that dying might result in the loss of equipment, and drop in the durability of it. Please try to unequip yourself before you go off to have some fun messing with bears.

I have once staked out at level 16 for a month, suiciding until I was at -100% exp to prevent myself from leveling. Its good for that windmill. Spin~ Spin~!

However, there are other ways to LOWER your Power levels as well. Here are some ways you can do this.

  • Drink a Weakening Potion (cash item, but is trade-able between characters for sale. This item will last 5 minutes making all monsters go up the MDL one step)
  • Use Enchants specifically made to lower Power Levels (rare, expensive, and difficult to use. Not advised as a goal for beginners)
  • Use a Skill Untrain Capsule (cash item, allows you to rank down one skill for return of your ap)
  • Rebirth, reset your levels and drop to a younger age *disclaimer*

*Remember that adding to your level and stats will raise your Power Level. While the drop of your Power Level is temporary, using a rebirth will ultimately mean that you gain much more Power Level in the end. This is why spamming a rebirth every 3 weeks is not suggested, because it boosts your Power Level dramatically.

There are other small not-worthy ways that I have not mentioned (and probably one or two I am forgetting).

Always remember to press Alt to check your opponent’s rating, and keep a good eye out for your skill requirements. The key to victory is hidden deep within preparation and strategies.

I hope this guide helps you understand why many veteran players in the past have rambled on about power levels in the past. If I did a good job, this should clear up some confusion in the topic. Do not hesitate to ask me questions or point out anything that could be added/wrong with this guide.
