Guide for Ranger 70-120

Content

There are TOO MANY ARCHER GUIDES with the SAME BORING information. So i will
not
touch on level 1-70.

Introduction to Ranger.

1 :Introduction :

Im just kinda kinda not happy about the lack of hunter guides, Im a level 9X
Ranger
playing in MapleSea Aquilla and i think its time a voice from Aquilla stood
out.

Ranger Pros and Cons :
Pro's
-Good speed
All you need is a + 10 speed snowshoes , Icarus 2 cape + 10 dex, a speed
pill,
and a
+10 speed bow to make your speed 40. Therefore you land faster than
Assassins
and have
a faster shot repeating rate than them.

-High-damage and Good Skills
A hunter has many skills that are a combinations of other jobs, for
example,Strafe is a
varation of savage blow WITH critical. Therefore you have stable medium high
damage. Rain
is like slash blast for a warriors pole-arm, but without the loss in damage
per
enemy hit.
Inferno is like OMG!! It totally overpowers Fire mages explosion in terms in
speed. And
unlike Snipers ice shot, it has the ability to critical.

-Good stalling ability
Two stalling skills, Puppet and Hawk, while totally useless with higher
level
boss monsters due to the fact that they have massive aoe(area of effect)
spells.
It works
very well and saves you thousands of mesos. Because one hit recieved in
higher
level dungeons
is equal to one unagi or higher wasted. Hunters are useful in zakum for
stunning
the mobs zakum spawns out.

-TOO MANY MOB KILLING SKILLS
Just too many mob killing skills, you got bomb, rain and inferno, what else
do
you want?

Con's
-Archer is boring to train for 80 levels
Firstly, youre using the same skill Double shot or Arrow blow for 80 levels,
since level 1 strafe is not efficient and costs you more pots. And if you
take
Arrow rain and decide to train at forest of golem maps. You will suffer
until
level 82 before you master rain and start owning those mobs.

-Archer items are HARD TO FIND(but rather cheap)
I spend hours trying to look for my overalls and bows in the free market.

-Archer is a upper-tier character
The tier order goes this way. Dragon knight, Bandit, Sniper , Ranger ,
Assassin
, Crusader/Knight, Ice/lit wizard, Fire/Poison Wizard, and Priest is in the
lowest tier.
This goes in the order of damage range. Therefore archer is not the best, But
is
still high up

-Archer is straining on your fingers.
Later ill be discussing on techniques for hunting. Consistently spamming
jump
strafe makes you out match assassin if youre good enough.

-Lastly archer is lousier that SNIPER.
No matter how i dont want to admit it, Snipers have way better damage. But
we
still look cool right xD? Hehehe.

*The Misconception of archer is hard to train.
Its harder than sins due to lack of jump evasion at level 40-60, but the
speed
of training is PRECISELY the same due to the same amount of exp needed to
level
therefore archers are NOT hard to train at all but its ONLY IN YOUR MIND
that
makes you not want to train archer. Comparing it with other classes...
BANDIT
class is the hardest to train due to lack of ranged skills and only a single
hitting enemy attack which can be compared to any other jobs first job
attack
skill. And is easier to train at higher levels compared with a ASSASSIN due
to
the fact that archer has become a good handler in and out of enemy mobs. And
you
dont have to repetitively climb the ladder to hit one of Zakums upper hands.

2:-Techinques

-Normal training techniques
*The jump over small monsters, turn around shoot theory.
This works for small monsters only. Example : Trapped in a corner with a
agro'ed
fire boar walking towards you. Simply Jump over it and shoot.

*Momento Abuse(Movement)
using monsters to intentionally propel you foward, which requires lots of
practise. This involves a monster spawning directly on you, and pressing jump
+ a
left or right direction and propels you forward a further distance.(pretend
you
got hit by a lupin banana in midair and thats the motion im talking about)

*Momento Abuse part two
Ever had a large monster spawn on you? Where you usually took 2 bump hits
from
it trying to get out from its center,Stone golem for example.Use the
momentum by
the direction it knocked you in to escape the second hit.

*Invincibility frame abuse
For example, in Santuary 3, where you see a Taurospear ready to poke you,
just
bump into a cold eye and recieve 70 damage instead of 1600 ^^

*Jump raining
This method is the best way to lure and kill large mobs asap. Its equivalent
to
the mages teleport and cast. Unless mages jump cast and then teleport(which
i
dont see often).Just jump rain into a group of monsters and repeat cast it.

*Rope Escaping
Using a rope to evade damage from a charging attack(monster bumping into
you),
or an projectile.

*Order of skills
Close proximity to medium proximity to far away. Use Arrow rain to
lure,puppet
to provoke, and when the enemies are stalling in that other direction, you
get to
arrow bomb/strafe/inferno them at your own disgression. Using the correct
skills
at the correct time is very important.

*Cliff Sniping
Stand on an area where enemys cant hit you and... SHOOT

*Knowing when to run
Do not stick in a corner when you have a mob charging towards you. Monsters
usually have a patrol radius of half a screen left and right from their
target(YOU).Therefore if youre cornered with no mob hitting skill at close
proxmity, you may have to waste potions just to get out.
-Advanced Training Techniques

-Jump Shooting (3 parts)
Binding-The perfect button,SPACEBAR!! Its in close proximity within your
probable keyboard setting. Mine is Z - Arrow Bomb, C - Arrow Rain, V - Fire
shot, F - Puppet, X - Strafe.
As you can see. binding jump to a common key with a big surface area is
easier
than haveing a cramped key setting like u,i,h,j,k,n,m. With j as your jump
key.
Finding the perfect key is important otherwise you may suffer from carpal
tunnel
syndrome(hand joint disfiguration)

Technique- A jump shot must be executed with both buttons pressed at the
same
time in the same frame.A tap will suffice, holding it will just increase the
effort needed to lift your fingers and hit them again. I suggest you try
practising a light bounce of the keyboard with your fingertips. To save
money,
practise chair-hopping. This involves a chair(relax chair,sky-blue wooden
chair). Press at the correct time, and you will see your character jumping
without changing the animation to a jump animation, and you will see your
character in the sitting position "jump".Jump shooting also saves the time
you
stop moving for 16 frames when you cast a support skill like Soul arrow.

Timing- Jump shooting needs proper timing, not for the initial jump, but for
the
exact time you can do another jump shot again. You have to estimate the
amount
of time needed
to land if you hit a monster. For example you jumps fowards into a mixed
golem,
and you have that knockback animation in the air where your character
freezes
for a frame without moving when the monster hits you. This lag time will
cause
you to lose out on a split second advantage with your ksing foe.

Using Monsters/Background objects to propel you fowards.
For example in the ice caves, using the geysers to knock yourself forward and
slip past a mob.

For me its like
Spacebar+left/right + attackskill/support skill - REPEAT

3:-Known Bugs
*Double Shot arrow bug
One steel arrow left, one double shot, both arrows hit with +2 wa.Simple and
NOT
useful

*Instant Kill Mortal Blow bug
Kills enemy at hp not reduced at all occasionally.

*Focus Hit Bug
Sometimes a miss appears on you but actually you had taken the damage when
the
enemy missed you.

4:-Equipment for hunters.
If you are rich
Get a +10weapon attack work glove asap at around level 83-85(this is when
you
can afford)
Get a +10 dex cape, prefarably an Icarus 2 so you can skip the points on
THRUST
due to the +10 points speed bonus.
Get a 100 WA(weapon attack) dark arund or higher asap
Scroll a +10 speed Greensnowshoe(7 slots) Since your chances of getting a +5
our
of 7 is pretty high
Get a Zakum helmet asap X_X +15 dex + 15 str is equal to 6 weapon attack

If you are poor
Just scroll a +10 speed Green Snow Shoe and An Icarus 2 and spam it with
100%
cape for dex.
100% your level 70 overalls with overall for dex.(available at various
scroll
npcs)

116-Puppet (17)
117-Puppet (20)
118-Mortal blow(8) OR THRUST IF YOU CANT AFFORD SPEED ITEMS
119-Mortal blow(11) Since mortal blow is techinically useless with rain.
120-Mortal blow(14) Depends if you play like me,or enjoy trying your luck
with
melee.

Other builds involve subsitution of Inferno with Thrust, or Leaving puppet
at 14
and maxing out mortal blow. But im just too darn lazy to list them all out
due
to the number of combinations available.

This is my build, and there are other builds such as arrow rain first then
strafe, for those people partying at mixed golems( sorry maple global people
x-x
this build is for you, since you dont have any high spawn mob maps yet^^)

6:-Skill assessment IN ORDER OF USEFULLNESS

Silver Hawk
This skill is an life saver, usually those spell casters such as vikings and
grim
watches are usually in their attack range.
The range gradually increases by every mp increment.

Strafe
This skill is one of your only attack skills at higher level bosses. With an
shot average at 7-11 thousand at level 90.Depends on defense of monsters
too.
Compared with Assassins Lucky Sever Stacked with Shadow Partner, our arrows
travel in a group of four, unlike the sins where it comes in a group of two.
This gives archer a comparatively a faster edge on re-firing although sins
have
the claw speed on fast usually. If a assassin does not flash jump throw, you
can
win them on a one hit kill per monster basis at zombies etc. This skill can
be
compared with a bandits savage blow, as its many hits ensures stable damage.

Arrow Rain
This skill is either for you to stand on ledges in Ludibrium and shoot, or
used
as a crowd clearing movement skill.Combined with jump shot and lag, The
range
actually increases.Example :I can hit four mixed golems if i jump shoot but
whereas i stand and shoot, i only can hit 3 in the same position.Jump shot
actually increases the left and right width of the rain. I have personally
tested this myself.

Puppet
If youre in an area where you can one-hit kill the monster, dont use this.
Since
you require to hit the monster first before it gets lured over to the
puppet. This skill may also incur the wraith of spellcasters and you can use
them
to hit unsuspecting afkers(EEK!) if youre really pissed with them and their
afking in a dangerous spot. Also, do not stand too near to a hunters puppet,
as
spellcasters will target it, resulting in you getting caught in the
crossfire or
in the area of effect. A proper puppet would be placed behind where the
enemy is
standing, or ON the enemy itself. This prevents yourself from getting hit
from
the patrol animation where it walks to the puppet if you place it BEHIND
yourself.Placement is important or you will just be wasting your mp

Inferno
If you think Inferno is lousy, just compare it with a mages. Explosion maxed
with 120 basic attack 60% minumum damage, and two times the range of a normal
fire arrow. And the casting time is SLOW,REALLY SLOW, even with magic
booster
and element amplification. Which DOUBLES your mp cost. So its 50 x 2 = 100
mp
gone. Hunters fire shot has a really fast shooting frame and travelling
speed.
Its as fast as a Assassins normal shot WITH booster. I cant compare the
damage
between level one Inferno and level 30 Explosion. Since i dont have much
information about this skill yet. But with critical on a neutral monster.
Its
like 700 damage on a dark golem at level 94. With critical would be 2.4k and
+
another 100% of your damage minus defense? If firemage could critical with
their
Explosion, i would have made a fire mage. Fireshot is as fast as ice shot,
but
lacks the stunning ability of freeze. Since archers had stun ability for 2nd
class. I guess this is just retribution. Compared with ice shot. Ice shot
has a
damage percentile of 140 while Fire has a percentile of 150 when maxed. This
would mean that we would be doing 10% more than snipers although they still
have
that 0.2 decimal advantage in their weapon formula. This skill is
under-rated,
and im still testing it.

Mortal Blow
This skill is your 2nd Final Attack, since its free , makes your arrow look
like
a Arrow blow, has around the same damage of arrow blow, and changes to a
yellowish spike if it instant kills. Theres a bug in all versions of
maple(tested in jms and maplesea) Where you actually INSTANT KILL a monster
at
any hp(even 100%) and get get half the exp you can get. Just think of this
as
arrow blow if you accidentally press strafe or something too near to a
enemy.

Thrust
This is your least important skill in maple, firstly with good equips and
passive speed adding bows at level 70.What more can hunters ask for? All you
need is a +10 speed snow shoe, a +10 Gold Hinkel/Dark Arund/Metus, Icarus
(2)
cape and a speed pill and voila!! 40 speed with no jump. Unless youre gonna
abandon fire arrow if youre not planning to train on ice based mobs and
gonna
add 20 points into thrust X_X(which i see no use in). i rather have the
attack
skill than the passive speed i already get when party with haste or from
your
equipment

7:-Places to train for Hunters/Rangers
Solo locations
55-70 (prefarably with a cleric with full Holy Symbol)
Zombie maps 3 and 4
Luster Pixies
Hectors(60% cape for dex drop)
Jr Yetis(60% glove for weapon attack drop)
Pepes

(Anything with around 135-190 per monster is good now)

*70-80
Transformed Yeti(Master Jump shooting first)
Zombies(one hit ko)
Hectors(one hit ko)
White Pangs(one hit ko)
Buffy
Soul Teddy(60% glove for weapon attack drop)
Pepes

(Anything with 190-220 exp per monster is good now)
(Why 190-220? See reason below)
*80-90
Ghost pirate(careful they 3 hit kill you probably)
Death Teddy(Needs puppet)
White Pangs
Pepes
Bains

90-100
Pirates and various vikings(Hawk needed)
Phantom Watch(with solo priest party)
Bains
Black Squids(Maple Sea only)

100-120
Pirates and various vikings
Phantom watch
Bains
Black Squids(Maple Sea only)
Zakum(You must BE KIDDING if youre gonna try to SOLO this boss)
(You can leech at least two boss forms of exp, the third form kills you in
one
hit.)

Party Locations
*70-80
Forest of Golem (mixed golem spawn of 12 per every 8 seconds)(victoria
island)
Average rate of 700-1200 exp per second in ACTIVE party
*80-90
Forest of golem(victoria island)
Cave of Trial 3(ossyria :el nath)
YnPp(Yeti and pepe)

Average rate of 700-2400 exp per second in ACTIVE party

*90-100
Spirit Vikings(Ludibrium)
Black Squid(aqua dungeon)
Bains(rather slow now)
YnPp(Yeti and Pepe)

Average rate of 1895-3600 exp per second in ACTIVE party

*100-120
Black Squids
Spirit Vikings
Grim Watches
Death Teddies
Thanathos(ITEM HUNTING ONLY)
GateKeeper(ITEM HUNTING ONLY)
Zakum Trial Runs
Doom Flounder(good drops)
Sharks(they can replace thanathos because thanathos spawn is low)
I cant calculate the average exp at this level, since zakum give millions
per
arm destroyed @_@.

Why 190-220 exp? Killing two pepes is more efficient than killing one
werewolf.
Killing two Hectors in two strafes is more efficient that killing a pepe in
two
strafes. Since 170 x 2 is better than 220 x 1.

*EFFICIENCY
Think of efficiency. Dont think just because your level matches the monster
you
can handle it. I recall my first time fighting thanathos and it was a total
waste of money as in the time i took to kill it i could have killed 7-9
vikings
and gotten 4 times more experience. The balls down to one thing, not monsters
you
can one hit kill, since its practically impossible to one hit kill a level
90
monster unless you can do 45k in one hit.Besides that, Thanathos has low
spawn
with only two per map or so and you dont get status effects from lower mobs.
So
KNOW YOUR LIMIT BEFORE YOU HUNT.

*Item Hunting
Only hunt items from monster you can kill, or suffer from major Safety charm
losses.

General Discussion
Is power knock back that usefull?
With Skills like rain and Mortal Blow, power knockback isnt that useful
anymore.

Is Mortal blow really a good skill?
It serves as a close range final attack to me.The instant kill factor is
useless, since you probably be killing the monster pretty fast with other
skills
and insane damage.

Is final attack usefull?
Youre gonna train 81 levels with the same boring skill if you dont have fa.
Besides, the shot comes out pretty fast and can help you out in places where
you
can kill two monsters in a row with one shot(Fire boars?) Cuts mp cost by
around
33% for 30 levels or more if you add it early.

Crossbow or Bow?
I would say Crossbow is better, in real life, the damage of an arrow depends
on
the persons arm length and arm strength to keep it steady. i prefer
fiberglass
bows because they have a more authenthic feel than a carbon one. A crossbow
is
easier to fire, harder to load, and painful for people with delicate fingers
to
cock.A bow allows a larger surface area so its less painfull to load it, but
harder to keep steady.

Inferno? Thrust? Mortal Blow?
I know there are many other builds out there involving inferno at level 1
and
thrust and mortal blow maxed. But in my opinion
arrow rain PWNS Mortal blow due to its 150 x a maximum of 6 enemys. Unless
you
rather kill the enemies one by one which would cost more mp by strafing them
to
death. Imagine 6 enemys x cost of strafe. But imagine killing 6 enemies in
2-3
arrow rains.
There are also full dex equipment sets out there so people might want to add
+10
to thrust and get a Green Snow Shoe with +12dex +20 jump and +4 speed.(4 10%
scoll passes * yes i seen this before) My build also depends on you wanting
to
spam the hotkey for your common ludibrium speed pill.(you can consume it
while
shooting, moving, etc) so it does not really affect delay except if youre
desperately trying to save yourself in a life or death situation. Which
comes
down to your selection. Which potion comes first. Which potion to use
second.
